Sudden national identity crisis
I just had a review, from a 16 yr-old, for my High-School-Musical-British-boys-school extravaganza which included this line...

You're not quite up to scratch with the old english but you're doing darn well if i say so.

I'm not sure that I shouldn't be slightly offended.
(I may also have replied with a thanks-but-I-should-be-doing-rather-well-with-the-English-being-as-I-bloody-well-am-English)

	I do seem to attract them sometimes. Or maybe I just bitch about more than others. She's British, sixteen and from Northampton. She has two fics up: one Bleach, one Naruto. One of the things that always gives me a chortle when reading Bleach fics is when I see British usage. I can never tell whether it's because they're British, or because they've been reading/writing HP and now think that ALL fanfic should be written -- but I sort of tend to think the latter. Japanese anime boys saying stuff like "bloody hell" or "arse" makes me twitch a bit. ;)

	It would be rather silly having them say "ass" if the author is English (and means the part of the body often exposed to the attention of other bishounen boys and not a four-legged animal with long ears) or has been taught British English, wouldn't it? ;0) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)
